Road association annual calendar

January

There is plenty to do on the roads in January, the coldest month of the year.

• Remove trees and branches bending over the road area under the weight of snow
• Take care of sanding and removal of packed snow
• Prepare the financial statements and submit them for review
• Plan the management committee and road association meetings

February

The hard frosts continue and there is plenty to do on the roads!

• Check the grant application periods and apply for maintenance grants for your road
• Arrange thawing of culvert pipes if necessary

March

The coldest part of winter is coming to an end and on the roads you can start looking towards spring.

• Prepare the road association's annual meeting
• Put dust-binding salts out to tender
• Check that the road association's details have been reported to Digiroad and the Private Road Register

April

• Make sure the frost damage signage is correct
• Assess the need for road improvement and the width of the road area
• Make meeting decisions on starting an improvement project and applying for a private road survey
• Prepare an improvement plan and apply for grants

May

• Arrange grading, gravelling and dust binding
• Remove and inventory the snow poles
• Put the improvement project out to tender

June

• Set the establishment of a road association in motion
• Carry out, supervise and pay for the improvement project
• Check the roadsides – is brush clearing needed this summer
• Keep track of the obligations of shareholders and the management committee or executive officer

July

• Take care of summer maintenance
• Arrange brush control
• Make sure the dust binding is working

August

• Make sure the road association meeting has been held or is scheduled
• Make sure the road association's insurance is in order
• Send and monitor road fees according to the meeting decisions
• Arrange culvert repairs, drainage and brush control

September

Autumn on private roads begins.

• Install snow poles
• Add a wearing course to your road
• Coordinate cabling, maintenance contracts and winter ploughing

October

Preparing for winter on private roads begins.

• Arrange autumn grading, gravelling and snow pole installation
• Agree on winter ploughing and sanding
• Take charge of cabling agreements and communication
• Collect information on unit calculation changes for the next annual meeting

November

November means winter, and according to the road association's annual calendar the most important tasks on the roads are these:

• Send payment reminders
• Arrange debt recovery
• Take care of private road surveys

December

A road full of snow and crisp winter weather!

• Take care of anti-slip measures and winter ploughing
• Prepare the annual report
• Compile the financial statement materials
