Road projects

Now is the time for road projects – choose the easier road

Does your road association need a road improvement or a completely new road?

Tievahti brings professional help to every stage of a road project – from planning to implementation.

We offer a comprehensive or tailored solution for road associations' road improvement projects
Tievahti's project model is designed to offer a clear, efficient and economically sound way to carry out an improvement project.

Improvement of private roads

Improving a private road means strengthening the road structure when normal maintenance is no longer enough. The reason is often reduced bearing capacity, frost damage, inadequate drainage or outdated culverts.

Many roads were originally built for lighter traffic, and today's heavy vehicles require a stronger structure. Rebuilding the whole road at once is simply too large an investment for many road associations.

Tievahti's PTS project model makes it possible to carry out the improvement in controlled phases. The road is surveyed as a whole and repairs are targeted first at the weakest points. This spreads the costs over several years and brings the road up to standard in a planned way.

Many municipalities and cities support the phased, planned improvement of private roads in their area.

We manage the project from start to finish. We survey the starting situation, draw up the plan and cost estimate, organise the implementation and find out about possible grants from the municipality or city.

This gives the road association a clear, controlled and predictable whole.

Forest road improvement with METKA funding

If a forest road meets the requirements for Metka funding, a Metka project can be started, in which forest road funding for the improvement is applied for from the Finnish Forest Centre. In a Metka project the funding covers up to 50 % of eligible costs, which makes forest road improvement economically sensible.

A successful Metka project is based on measured data and careful planning. Bearing capacity measurement and a road inventory ensure that the improvement is dimensioned correctly and that the Metka application meets all requirements.

We help the road association throughout the Metka project – from assessing eligibility to bearing capacity measurement, Metka planning and preparing the grant application, all the way to tendering, construction management and the finished road.

A well-executed Metka project ensures that the forest road withstands forestry transports and reliably supports security of supply in the future too.

Building a new road and relocating roads

We carry out road realignments, road relocations and the construction of entirely new road sections.

Many private roads were originally built to run through farmyards and farm centres. As traffic volumes grow and transports become heavier, such a solution is not always safe or practical anymore. Traffic through a yard can pose safety risks, disturb residents and limit the use of the property.

In such situations the solution may be a road realignment or building a completely new road alignment.

We plan and carry out road relocations as a whole. We examine the options, prepare the necessary plans and cost estimates, and guide the road association and landowners through the process in the right order. We see the process through to practical implementation.

This gives the road association a safer, more functional solution that takes future needs into account.

Order a bearing capacity measurement for your road

Bearing capacity measurements play a key role in the success of projects.

Tievahti carries out road bearing capacity measurements using the falling weight method. Bearing capacity data on the road structure is essential input when planning structural improvements.
